Senior police officers and members of various police stations within the Johannesburg district, along with other law enforcement agencies, gathered in Douglasdale on 7 June for Operation O Kae Molao (where’s the law).

The multidisciplinary operation sought to clamp down on crime in and around the Douglasdale policing precinct. Law enforcement officers worked through the night with the aim of creating a sense of safety among community members.

Some of the successes of the operation included the arrest of 17 suspects for driving under the influence of alcohol, while one suspect was arrested for possession of drugs. Other positive outcomes from the operation was the closure of three illegal liquor outlets and the issuing of two fines for outlets not complying with the Gauteng Liquor Act of 2003.

The operation also saw 549 people and 245 vehicles being searched.

Captain Mpho Tshetlhane of Douglasdale Police Station said police would continue with such operations. “This operation is there to make sure our community feels safe. We are also appealing to members of the community to keep on reporting criminal activities happening in their area by phoning the Douglasdale police on 011 699 1300 or Relief Commander on 071 675 7158.”
