Jozi Death Café turns one year

FOURWAYS – There was plenty of cake and joy as the Jozi Death Cafe celebrated its first birthday on 19 May.

The Conscious Care Circle spent the morning honouring life as they hosted a yoga session on 19 May, followed by a celebration of the Jozi Death Café’s one year birthday.

The circle is a referral network of health practitioners who lovingly support those on a cancer journey. The organisation started the Jozi Death Café last year to create a safe space where people can gather to discuss death, decreasing fear around the topic and opening up the conversation about mortality.

The day started out with yoga classes for both children and adults, before the birthday celebrations began. There was fresh fruit, drinks and birthday cake before a group discussion.

During the discussion, participants had the opportunity to share their own experiences with losing loved ones and facing life without fear. Similar discussions are held during monthly meetings which are open to the public.
