Ark hosts first fitness event with much success

FOURWAYS – Residents of different communities come together at Ark Animal Centre for the very first edition of My Run.


Leading rehabilitation and re-homing animal shelter, Ark Animal Centre, hosted their very first fitness event on Sunday, 26 May. The event called ‘My Run ark animal race’ saw residents of different communities gather at the animal centre in Chartwell for a fun race accompanied by their dogs.

Community-focused fitness company, My Run, has been formed to target all audiences and unite communities, by hosting free weekly events that are accessible to everyone. The aim of the fitness company is to make a difference in communities through such events and inspire people to be active through all stages of their lives.

Head of My Run Leigh Buckle added, “With My Run we look for places where we can bring exposure and the opportunity to do donations and also give the public the opportunity to come together.

“Participants can come for free to run but should they wish to achieve vitality points, they need to purchase a wristband timing band which will be linked to their profile and they will earn points which is why we see participants tapping at the end of each race.”

Owner of Animal Ark Tracy Otto was impressed with the attendance on the day, “The event went very well, we weren’t expecting a lot of people and I think we had approximately 80 participants. A lot of people enjoyed themselves and it’s good to see that they are keeping fit. This was the first one and it will be held every Sunday.”

Marinda Kerr, a participant, also shared her thoughts on the race, “It’s a very nice racing course, I think as time goes by the grass will be level as people keep running and using the facility. I will definitely be coming back for this race.”
