Let’s celebrate nurses

Life Fourways Hospital management sincerely thanks all our nurses today for their dedication and commitment to the hospital and our patients.

International Nurses Day is celebrated on 12 May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s, birth.

She is considered the founder of modern nursing and came to prominence while serving as a nurse manager and trainer during the Crimean war in the 1850’s. She organised the care of wounded soldiers, giving nursing a favourable reputation and was known as the ‘Lady with the lamp’ as she made rounds of wounded soldiers with her lamp to light her way at night.

One of Nightingale’s achievements was the introduction of trained nurses into the work-house system in Britain from 1860 onwards, where the ill were  cared for properly by trained nursing staff.

Today, Nightingale’s philosophy of well-trained nurses lives on in a modernised nursing education system where a career in nursing provides the opportunity  to clinically specialise  in areas such as Intensive Care, Renal, Theatre, Trauma and Midwifery to name but a few. Nursing careers can also expand into Quality, Infection Prevention and Training Specialists.

Nursing is a true calling and one of the most demanding professions in the world. Life Fourways Hospital celebrates International Nurse’s Day by honouring our nurses for their vital work and passion as care givers. It’s a time to reflect on and celebrate a vocation that requires a lifetime commitment to quality, caring and compassion. As healthcare professionals, nurses fulfil varied and multiple nursing roles – from caregiver, confidante, communicator, manager, teacher, patient advocate, decision-maker, administrator, teacher and counsellor.

Nurses are central to meeting the unique needs of our patients’. Their tireless efforts have an enormous impact on quality of care, and contributes to how our patients experience their hospital stay and the care they receive. Life Fourways Hospital management  sincerely thanks all our nurses today for their dedication and commitment to the hospital and our patients.

Thank you to the Fourways community for entrusting our nurses to your care.
