Discovered body is not yet identified

RIVERSANDS – Midrand police have confirmed that a body discovered on 24 April in Riversands has not yet been identified and that investigations are continuing

The remains of a woman discovered in Riversands have not yet been identified, according to the Midrand Police Station.

The Midrand Reporter first reported on the discovery on 24 April, when workers at the Riversands Farm Village discovered the remains in a badly decomposed state along the riverbank. After the matter was reported to authorities the police and Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe arrived on the scene and an investigation into the cause of death and how the woman came to be there began.

In response to questions asked by the Fourways Review, Constable Thabiso Selowa of the Midrand police confirmed the discovery.

“The body has not yet been identified,” she confirmed. “The police are busy with the investigation but because the body was [so badly] decomposed no one knows how long it was there.”

She also added that the remains are currently being kept at the Johannesburg General Hospital mortuary while investigations continue.

Anyone with information on the matter is urged to contact the Midrand police on 011 347 1626.
