Police held a safety awareness campaign at Mashamplan informal settlement

DIEPSLOOT – Police provide safety awareness campaign in Mashamplan informal settlement.

The police held a safety awareness programme at the Mashamplan informal settlement in Diepsloot on 10 April.  The programme was attended by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela.

Under the #OperationOkaeMolao, Mawela joined the police to police the congested Mashamplan area. The provincial commissioner said the reason they had to walk to the area is that police cars can’t access the area due to its congestion.

“The area is congested so the only way to police the area is to walk because police cars can’t access the people here. As a police leadership, if we walk here we also encourage our junior members that it is possible and doable,” said Mawela.

He urged Diepsloot police officers to not be scared to walk around the area and ensure the community members are safe. He added that police visibility will make residents work with the police and trust them.

“When you work with the community you can still walk here because the very same community when you work with them hand in hand will protect you as a police officer. They will not see you as an enemy but if you keep a distance from them, then they will think that that police only come here when they want to arrest us.”
