Diepsloot police nab scaffolding ‘thieves’

DIEPSLOOT – Three men have been arrested in the Diepsloot area and charged with possession of stolen property.

On 12 March at about 10.30am Diepsloot police arrested three men between the ages of 29 and 35 for possession of stolen property worth an estimated value of over R100 000.

The officers were conducting crime prevention duties in the informal settlement when they received a tip-off from an informant. The informant told them that three men had stolen scaffolds from a scaffolding company based in Kya Sands and gave a description of the vehicle the men were using. The vehicle was spotted along the R114 and police pulled it over.

When asked about the scaffolds in the back of the truck, one suspect, who was later found to be a former employee of the company, alleged that he had been hired to deliver the material by his employer. The owner of the scaffolds came to the scene and positively identified his property, while also confirming to police that one of the men was his former employee. All three suspects will soon appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possessing stolen property.

Details: Diepsloot Police Station 011 367 6300.
