Metro police spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar, said; “The truck driver was fined R2 970 for illegal dumping and he will have to pay the fine for him to get the truck.”
The City of Johannesburg Department for Public Safety has called for harsher penalties for illegal dumpers.
Our @JoburgMPD 👮🏼♂️👮🏿♀️ combat environmental crime, such as by impounding an illegal dumper's vehicle in #Diepsloot #RegionA
We however require support of @SAPoliceService & @NPA_Prosecutes to ensure maximum penalties under the National Environmental Management Act#BuyaMthetho pic.twitter.com/6FmdgBFnMM

The issue of illegal dumping is a serious problem in the city. Mashaba started the A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign to encourage residents to do away with illegal dumping across the city. This campaign encourages all of Johannesburg’s residents to continue taking ownership of their environment by helping to create cleaner communities.
We're getting ready for our second #Aresebetseng of 2019. Join us on the third Saturday of this month as Mayor @HermanMashaba and his MMCs hit the streets of Jozi for our monthly clean-up. We will release their regional clean-up locations soon. Do join us! 😉 ^GZ pic.twitter.com/auT31VUMvY
