Truck impounded for illegal dumping

DIEPSLOOT – Metro police officers have impounded a truck for illegal dumping.

The Metro police officers have impounded a truck driver for illegal dumping in at Ext 2 in Diepsloot on 9 February.

This comes after officers received a complaint from the residents about people dumping things in this area. The truck driver was caught on the scene while dumping and his truck was impounded.

Metro police spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar, said; “The truck driver was fined R2 970 for illegal dumping and he will have to pay the fine for him to get the truck.”

The City of Johannesburg Department for Public Safety has called for harsher penalties for illegal dumpers.

The issue of illegal dumping is a serious problem in the city. Mashaba started the A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign to encourage residents to do away with illegal dumping across the city.  This campaign encourages all of Johannesburg’s residents to continue taking ownership of their environment by helping to create cleaner communities.
