Diwali festival cook-off spices up September

MAGALIESSIG – This is what the first prize winner walked away with.

 

In celebration of the Diwali India Lifestyle Festival, 10 entrants recently re-created their favourite recipes using either mutton or chicken at a Spice Master Cooking Competition at Montecasino.

On the judging panel was Chef Deena, winner of Masterchef SA and owner of Aarya Restaurant; the newly appointed executive chef from Aarya, Chef Kenny; and Edward Chamberlain-Bell from JoziStyle.

The entrants were grilled on the inspiration behind their dishes and which dish they loved most.

After long and hard deliberation, first prize winner went to Prindna Govender who walked away with a full lamb, R500 spice voucher and R2 000 cash.

The second prize winner received half a lamb, R300 spice voucher and R1 000 in cash and third prize winner with half a lamb, R200 spice voucher and R500 cash.

The festival which took place from 7 to 16 September at the Outdoor Events Area depicted an explosion of colour, taste, sound and texture, showcasing wares and delights from local and international exhibitors.
