The children and teachers of Crawford Lonehill Pre-Primary kickstarted the third term with an exciting social outreach campaign called ‘A mug of love and warmth’.
This initiative was an extension of the ‘Sharing the warmth campaign’ which was implemented during the previous term at the school.
In light of Women’s Month and the end to the cold season, this exciting initiative was aimed at dedicating beautiful mugs (new or used) filled with sweets, teas, coffees, soups, snacks, biscuits and other goodies for the Gerald Fitzpatrick House and Nursing Home in southern Johannesburg.
Families involved in the initiative were given a wrapper pack which included a cellophane, card template and a ribbon. The school’s mission was to encourage parents to spend a meaningful morning or afternoon with their children to decorate the card and find a mug to fill up with the love and warmth from their home to give to Fitzpatrick residents.
The school has learners between the ages of three and six and wants to better the community and also use each outreach initiative as an opportunity to educate children to grow and become conscious and aware citizens that contribute to the positive upliftment of the greater community.
The school is involved in a variety of projects which have assisted organisations such as schools, children, animals and the environment. This initiative was a great success and the school managed to collect 133 mugs, which were handed out to the 78 elderly women, 48 caregivers, and seven student volunteers who make this organisation possible.
School principal Caroline Miller, deputy principal Jacqui Smallbone and volunteer moms paid a visit to the home on 16 August at 10:30am and spent the morning handing out the precious mugs to the residents.
