Police arrest two murder suspects in less than 48 hours

MIDRAND – 23 Midrand police officers awarded certificates for the speedy arrests of two murder suspects.

Midrand police officers have been awarded certificates for a job well done following the arrest of two suspects for the murder of two men who were shot dead in a Kyalami restaurant on 12 August.

The case was investigated by 23 officers who were all awarded certificates by the Midrand Police Station Commander Brigadier David Tsotsosto for their role in the arrests.

According to police, an argument broke out between the two suspects and the two victims in the restaurant. One of the suspects allegedly pulled out a gun, shot the two men and then fled.

Good detective work saw one suspect being arrested on the day of the crime while the second suspect handed himself in the next day.

“The suspects appeared in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on 14 August but the case was postponed therefore no bail was granted,” said Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela.

“Both suspects are currently detained at the Johannesburg Central Prison.”

The men appeared in court again on 23 August for their bail application. Only the suspect who handed himself over to police received bail. The other suspect remains in custody and currently has five other pending cases against him including two for murder, attempted murder, suspected possession of a stolen motor vehicle and pointing of a firearm.
