Dainfern College prep gets active

DAINFERN – The Dainfern College Preparatory School hosted its annual interhouse competition on 10 and 12 July, where schoolchildren got to show off their athletic skills.

Dainfern College held its annual Preparatory School InterHouse field and track events on 10 and 12 July.

This is always a hotly contested event that is well supported by the children and parents.

The field events were held on 10 July and attended only by the participating schoolchildren who competed in shot-put, long jump and high jump events, with each age group moving around the main oval to compete. Each event was supervised and scored by staff, with points totalled at the conclusion of the afternoon.

The track events on 12 July were a much more high-energy affair with all schoolchildren from Grade 4 to 7 in attendance, along with selected Grade 3s who filled the stands and cheered on the competitors or played vital assistant roles to the scorers and place judges.

The athletes competed in 70m hurdles, and 80m, 100m, 150m, 200m and 1 200m track events, ending off the day with the 4x100m relay race.

Brendan Quinn, the principal of Dainfern College Senior Preparatory, announced the results and handed out trophies together with Tessa Shellard, deputy principal of sport and extramural activities at the school.

The junior victor and victrix ludorum trophies were awarded to Liam Duvenage and Amber Lily Fairon respectively. There was a tie for senior victor ludorum between Nkosinathi Ntuli and Faraz Hamayun, and senior victrix ludorum was awarded to Siphelele Makhathini.

Kraken House was announced this year’s winner with Phoenix following close behind and Griffin taking third place.
