Suburb spotlight – Fourways

Estate agents have noted that Fourways is greater Johannesburg’s fastest growing hub. With all the ongoing infrastructural improvements, as well as the amount of new retail, commercial and residential property for sale in Fourways, it’s easy to see why.

It’s hard to believe that this area used to be a 600-acre farm, owned by the Eriksen family. Their home, built in 1920, was called Norscot Manor. The Manor is still around and serves as a community recreation centre. It also has some of the most beautifully maintained gardens in Johannesburg. Fourways gets its name from the major intersection between the R511 and Witkoppen Road, which used to be a simple four-way stop.

Fourways is shaping up to being a real homebuyers’ haven in the coming years, and all you have to do is look at how much property is for sale in Fourways for proof. This after estate agents noted the current amount of new infrastructure, commercial, residential and retail property for sale in Fourways has resulted in the hub to be greater Johannesburg’s fastest growing node.

Fourways resident, Karabo Mashego has lived in the area for three years and loves it. He does however work in Sandton, so it negates the dilemma of commuting, but it’s one of the most common headaches that Johannesburg residents will be familiar with.

Mashego says “It’s close to the main roads and the Gautrain bus stop at Montecasino, making my commute to Sandton a lot easier. Fourways has everything one needs, from shopping centres, to areas of entertainment and schools, which means you can live and play within the area without having to travel far.”

With a range of things to see and do, Fourways offers you a Farmer’s Market, Montecasino, a couple of nearby golf courses, fantastic restaurants, and all of this close to a number of major connecting roads.

In addition to what is already there, the Fourways Mall is currently being renovated to turn it into a super-regional mall and will have new stores, while Fourways Crossing has also been renovated. For young families it’s equally appealing with a number of good public, and private schools, and hospitals in the area.
