Be vigilant when driving around Fourways intersections

DOUGLASDALE – These are the safety tips the head spokesperson at Douglasdale Police Station shared when driving in the area.

With the increasing number of beggars and hawkers on Fourways’ intersections, Douglasdale Police Station‘s communications officer, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane urged motorists to be vigilant at all times.

“I would like to strongly state that as the police, we cannot label beggars or hawkers selling on the side of the road as criminals, however, motorists need to be vigilant when driving on the roads,” she said.

Tshetlhane encouraged motorists to follow these tips in order not to fall prey to any criminal act:

  • Do not reach for your purse or valuables. Leave everything behind if forced from the car
  • Do not resist, especially if the thief has a weapon
  • Give up your vehicle with no questions asked and move away
  • Do not be distracted by people handing out flyers or selling items at intersections
  • Do not give strangers a lift
  • A gear lock is affordable and a very effective anti-theft device
  • Do not open your garage door before your gates are closed.

“We advise residents to work hand in hand with the police in the fight against crime. They can also contact the police station on 011 699 1333.”
