Fourways residents warned as smash-and-grabs increase

MAGALIESSIG – Have a look at what took place on William Nicol Drive on 6 June.

In a bid to curb the rise in smash-and-grabs in the area, teamwork was the order of the day.

Douglasdale police in collaboration with the Douglasdale Sector 4 Community Policing Forum (CPF) held an activation to educate motorists on the crimes.

The head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane explained that the activation showed their continued efforts to create a crime aware environment within the community. “Our members were joined by Sector 4 CPF along William Nicol Drive during 6 June’s evening rush-hour.”

She stated that the operation was a joint effort by various stakeholders which aimed to address armed robberies, common robberies, smash-and-grabs, theft out of motor vehicles and hijackings. “We spread out around the slow-moving traffic as we interacted with commuters and provided them with brochures. We handed out 3 000 brochures to motorists that contained advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime.”

Douglasdale police reservists, Metro police Region A, councillor Candice James, councillor David Foley, CPF, neighbourhood watch, 24/7 Security, ADT, Cortac, Fidelity, Londoloza, RSS and TRSS all joined in on the operation.

“The operation served as an awareness to motorists to always be alert to their surroundings and the Douglasdale Sector 4 CPF wished to thank all involved in the operation,” said Tshetlhane.
