Unity College gets new educational management and new principal to get ahead

CHARTWELL – Unity College has a new educational management and principal, this is what they had to say about the new changes.

Under the new educational management of the renowned Staples family, Unity College hopes to get ahead and back to form.

According to the chairperson of the school’s board and parent Andrew Kelly, over the last few years, they have been experiencing difficulties with financial sustainability. “The hectic economic times saw the school’s parents finding it hard to pay their children’s school fees and as a result we lost some children, dropping the number of children we have enrolled in the school.”

He explained that they believe that if they work with people who have a good track record with managing skills effectively, they might stand a chance to grow the school from where it is now.

“At one stage we had 110 schoolchildren enrolled and now we are a lot smaller than that, so we are hoping that with this new management of the Staples and Deon Visser we will get back the numbers.”

Kevin Staples explained that he is involved on the board and business side of the school and plans to implement his expertise in order to get the school to where it needs to be.

When asked what community members and parents should expect with the new Unity College management, Herbie Staples said, “People should expect significant passion as they’ll try to embed their personalities into everything that the school needs. They can also expect expertise because of decades of involvement in education and school successes.”

Unity College’s new principal, Deon Visser.

Staples shared his successful profile in educational successes. “Twenty years ago we started Trinity House High and Preparatory School. They became a success, considering the amount of Trinity schools in the area.”

He stated that from Trinity House he moved to Newton House school and, with the help of Kevin and others, they saw the success of the schools. “I start schools where I see that there is a need. Our motive is not to become millionaires but to create institutions that work extremely well, because people will pay a pricey fee to get a classy product.”

Staples wished to see the school in good strength in the next five years. “This school has a much wider footprint because there is a desperate need for such a school, as one doesn’t usually find a school that helps special needs children get into a University.”

The school’s new principal, Visser his shared excitement with his appointment and with his 42 years in education, he hopes to take the school forward in strength. “With the passion I have for children and the love for education, I believe that me and the Staples family, as well as school’s staff, will take the school to where it needs to be.”
