Keep someone warm this winter through the Rotary Blanket Drive

FOURWAYS – As winter creeps up, why not support your local Rotary Club in its drive to donate blankets to the needy in your community?

Rotary‘s Blanket Drive, now in its ninth year, has officially launched and the organisation is encouraging the public to donate to the cause.

“We collected about 12 500 blankets last year and have a large number of Rotary Clubs, about 25, participating this year,” said Steven Margo of the Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club. “Each club nominates their own charities and distributes to those charities [after the drive is completed].”

Margo explained that the clubs do not physically collect blankets, but rather ask for donations to buy blankets at wholesale prices, which are then donated.

“We have an arrangement with Sesli Textiles who manufacture blankets and let us have them at a much-reduced cost.”

A single blanket costs R70 and the drive will be running until the end of August.

To make your donation, you need to make a deposit to a specially allocated bank account and use your local club as a reference on your deposit so that the blankets can be correctly distributed.

Then you need to email proof of payment to Brenda McCallum brenda@albaco.co.za and jackiedk@csimanagement.co.za and the full name of your club, email address and contact number and the name of the person your club has authorised to collect the blankets.

Following this, Rotary will issue a purchase order which will double as authorisation to collect the blankets at an arranged date and time.
