#ICYMI: Diepsloot man alleges employer threw boiling water at him for eating leftover sauce

FOURWAYS – The EFF Joburg has spoken out about the incident.

Many media houses are today reporting that a Diepsloot man sustained severe burns to his upper body alleging that his employer, a restaurant owner in Fourways, threw boiling water at him.

According to the reports, the victim is Fortune Moyo, who is a cleaner at the Rodizio Brazilian Restaurant in Fourways.

The restaurant was found to be closed today.

The incident is said to have taken place last month, but has come to light in the media following a tweet by the EFF Joburg last night.

The EFF Joburg alleged in their tweet, “The owner of @RodizioBrazilia in Fourways poured boiling water on employee & we expected to keep quiet?Cause reconciliation is sacrosanct?”

TimesLive reports that Moyo had mixed some leftover spaghetti, that he had kept from the day before, with some leftover sauce from an oxtail stew. He alleged his boss had watched him on the CCTV cameras and then asked why he was eating the oxtail. Moyo reportedly told his boss that it was not the oxtail that he was eating but rather the unused, leftover sauce from the oxtail that was in a pot that was about to be cleaned. According to Moyo, the restaurant’s chef reportedly agreed that this was the case.

Moyo alleged that his boss then threw boiling water from a kettle at him, and three other employees were also reported to have been burnt in the incident.

It is further reported that Douglasdale police are investigating an assault case with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and that the restaurant owner had appeared in court on 26 March.

The next appearance is in May.

EWN further reports that as the matter is in court, the restaurant owner declined to comment.
