Police advise residents to be cautious when jogging in the area

DOUGLASDALE – Read what advice the police gave to joggers.

The Douglasdale police are advising community members who usually jog or run along the road in their neighbourhood to always be vigilant. This follows a rape incident that occurred in Douglasdale in which a 42-year-old woman was attacked while jogging along Kingfisher Drive and Witkoppen Road.

According to the head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane, this comes after several cases were reported to the station where joggers were either raped, assaulted or robbed of their valuables which included cell phones, cash and jewellery.

“We advise community members to either jog in groups or in safe areas where they will not be easily targeted by criminals. They should not jog alone in open spaces and in streets that do not have lights,” Tshetlhane said.

“Your safety is our concern and always remember that prevention of crime begins with you.”

The Douglasdale police advise community members to report all criminal activities or suspicious activity on 011 699 1333 or 08600 10111.
