Blow the whistle on illegal dumping in the area

RIVERSANDS – Read what you need to do to help fight illegal dumping in the area.

Illegal dumping in and around the Fourways area is of great concern and the Member of the Mayoral Committee, Michael Sun urged residents to blow the whistle on illegal dumpers.

This comes from a community member, Charles Fry who recently witnessed a company truck dumping rubble and concrete on the corner of Mnandi Road and Riversands Boulevard.

According to Fry, it was not the first time the truck was dumping in the area. “On 21 February, I saw the same company dumping at the same place. I see the area has become one large dumping ground and a terrible eyesore – something needs to be done about it!”

Sun urged residents to take action when they see an illegal dumper in action by taking clear photos showing the culprit, the vehicle with registration number and the waste dumped.

“Send the photo with the date, time and location to the Metro police’s By-law Management Unit, and based on information received, they will trace and prosecute the illegal dumper.”

He does, however, plan to eradicate illegal dumping in the city and has urged community members to report by-law transgressors.

The amount of dump on Mnandi Road and Riversands Boulevard.

“Illegal waste is being dumped in open spaces, fields and in and along rivers. Authorities and the community must work together because it is difficult to arrest the culprits as illegal dumping takes place very quickly and at various places and times of the day.”
