No easy way in and around Fourways

FOURWAYS – Read the reasons why there is heavy traffic in the Fourways area.

Motorists have expressed their frustrations at the heavy traffic during peak hours in Fourways.

The spokesperson for the Metro police, Edna Mamonyane explained why this was so. “The heavy traffic in the area comes after a lot of development in the area such as new malls and shopping centres being built and road upgrades,” she said.

Mamonyane added that many workers employed on these construction sites commuted in taxis and buses which also contributed to the traffic congestion.

She said traffic lights that were not working also contributed to the heavy traffic in the area. “When traffic lights are not working, it could be that people stole the traffic light cables and the Johannesburg Roads Agency needs to fix it promptly.

“I believe they try their level best to get the traffic lights fixed in order to alleviate the amount of traffic in the area.”

Mamonyane concluded that motorists needed to report any traffic lights that needed repairing on 011375 5911.
