Father kills himself in front of Douglasdale police, body of daughter discovered

DOUGLASDALE – Read what Douglasdale Police Station commander, Brigadier Samuel Thambo had to say about the crime.

A man (52) allegedly killed himself in front of Douglasdale police officers following a long car chase with police with the body of his daughter in the boot on 4 February.

According to Douglasdale Police Station commander, Brigadier Samuel Thambo, on 4 February at about 4.20pm the police received a tip-off regarding a suspicious-looking white VW polo parked on Kingfischer Road in Douglasdale.

“Our police crime prevention members responded to the complaint. Upon arrival at the scene, they found the 52-year-old man inside the vehicle. The members then asked to search his vehicle, however, the suspect requested they go to the police station to do this since the members were wearing private clothing,” Thambo said.

He said the members then followed the suspect in his vehicle but instead of heading to the police station, he continued driving along Witkoppen Road.

“The members tried to [stop] him but the suspect continued driving until the corner of Witkoppen Road and Malibongwe Drive where he stopped his vehicle. When he realised he was cornered by police, he then pulled out a firearm and shot himself in the upper body. He was certified dead on the scene.”

According to Thambo, upon closer inspection, the police found the body of a 14-year-old female wrapped up in a white duvet in the suspect’s vehicle.

Thambo explained that intensive police investigations revealed that the teenager’s body was the daughter of the suspect who sustained a bullet wound to her head.

“An unlicensed firearm was also recovered. The motive behind the incident is still unknown.”

Douglasdale police are investigating a case of murder.

“We appeal to members of the public to keep on reporting criminal activities in their area by contacting the police station.”
