Bryanston Warriors Football Club welcomes new members

DOUGLASDALE – Boys and girls are welcome at the Bryanston Warriors Football Club in Douglasdale as it kicks off a year of soccer fun. Find out more here.

A new year filled with fun soccer has kicked off for the Bryanston Warriors Football Club (BWFC).

The club, which operates from the Kings College and New Covenant Church on Hornbill Road, has teams in every age group from U6 right up to U15 and an open team for players who are older. It was established in 2012 and is headed by Kim Jones as its chairperson.

“We had about 210 members for last year’s season, but because people are still registering, I’m not sure how many we’ll have in 2018,” said Jones during the team’s open day on 3 February.

“We’re definitely a community club, and we focus on the development of every child’s skills, and also teach them about working as a team.”

Jones added that unlike many other soccer clubs, they did not hold trials for children to join but instead took on any child who wished to participate.

“Right now, both boys and girls are part of the teams for most of the age groups, but we would like to create separate teams when we have enough players.”

The club takes part in the Rand Central League from April through to September and practices start in February.

“I joined the club last year and absolutely love it,” said Maria Lourenco, part of the club’s executive committee and in charge of advertising and sponsorships for the team. “BWFC offers a lot of opportunities to learn about the sport and has top coaches working with the children.

“I enjoy the whole vibe of the club, we’re big on family values and community, and since I’ve been here BWFC has become a kind of a second family to me.”

Although the club’s official registration days are now over, interested children and their families are still welcome to approach the club to learn more about joining in.
