However, just this afternoon, there has been a collision on Cedar Road at Cedar Boulevard.
According to Douglasdale CPF chairperson, Jean Berdou, at around 2.30pm, two vehicles collided at the intersection in Broadacres. Two female casualties were transported by ambulance to hospital and Berdou said Metro police assisted with traffic control.
This is one of three major collisions to take place in the Fourways area in three days.
The collision comes just after Future City Fourways, earlier today, appealed to community members and motorists to drive safely, following the fatal accident on Witkoppen Road yesterday, 30 January.
The fatal collision saw one motorist airlifted to hospital.
The incident occurred in Paulshof, where the driver of a Toyota Hilux drove into a group of officers, as well as a BMW, Hyundai, and Porsche that had been pulled over.
Two passengers and the driver of the Hyundai were seriously injured. The drivers of the BMW and Porsche were slightly injured, along with two officers.
The driver of the Toyota Hilux was arrested, taken for a blood sample and detained at Sandton Police Station, according to MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun.
He also said that he and the City of Joburg Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba had visited the family of one of the officers who died, to pay their respects. “We will, later on, visit the other officer’s family and the officer in hospital,” said Sun.
“Our condolences go to the family and colleagues of the fallen officers and we wish the officer in hospital a speedy recovery.”
