FOURWAYS – A man and his dogs survive a fire after a WhatsApp message alerts residents.

On the night of 25 January, a WhatsApp message alerted residents of Jukskei Park of a house on fire.

Members of the Douglasdale CPF Sector 1 could not assist with the fire but were able to alert the residents and suggested that they drench any neighbouring thatch to prevent the fire from spreading. Residents were advised to keep the roads clear and try to keep people calm throughout the occurrence.

The swift response from members of the community was lauded in a Facebook post by resident, Donne Oosthuizen‎.

“What amazes me every time, is the community! The number of people that rally together to see where and what they can offer help with, offer a place to sleep and even take care of animals – you deserve a round of applause,” said Oosthuizen.

Oosthuizen further encouraged residents to always keep the relevant contact numbers for emergency services.

Future City Fourways also urged residents to assist the family in their time of need by helping where they can.

“Well done to all involved, in any way big or small. It’s amazing to watch strangers pull together like they have been friends for years,” said Oosthuizen.
