Advtech Schools from across South Africa honoured its 14 top achievers at a lunch on 18 January, applauding the youngsters’ hard work and commitment to achieving astounding results in the 2017 National Senior Certificate exams written under the IEB programme.
Head of academics at Advtech, John Luis said, “The academic vision and strategy of Advtech is about developing students incrementally and setting high targets.
“We want to guarantee a positive growth trend for each student that comes through our schooling programme. Today, we celebrate our successes with our top candidates and acknowledge their hard work and commitment.”
School groups which form part of the Advtech programme include: Abbotts College, Crawford Schools, Trinityhouse, Maravest, Centurus and Advtech academies.
Luis said the group achieved an average of 1,6 distinctions per matric candidate and an 83,6 per cent bachelor pass rate. “Twelve per cent of Advtech students achieved five or more distinctions.”
The top achiever at each school was honoured with a glass trophy and a variety of sponsored prizes.
Agnes Helena Gosnell from Crawford College La Lucia received great applause for her achievement of 11 distinctions. Third place achiever Claire Marie Berzen emerged from Crawford College Sandton achieving an average of 93,77 per cent and nine distinctions. Saneshan Narainsamy from Crawford College North Coast achieved 94,08 per cent average, nine distinctions and second place overall, while Sachin Umesh Naidoo from the same school overtook him with 94,77 per cent average, nine distinctions and the award for the top achiever.
Berzen spoke to the Sandton Chronicle about her achievement. “I was very relieved when I finally got my results and I was so glad it was over. The results were better than I’d expected and now I will be going to UCT to study actuarial science.”
Her accounting teacher, Maheshwari Lall said, “Claire is an absolutely dedicated and committed student. She shows dedication in everything she does and is committed to achieve high results and is adaptable to any environment. I believe she is well-groomed for the future and possesses all the qualities to be successful.”
Meseeha Bhorat from Crawford College La Lucia said, “I feel honoured to be invited to this prestigious event. I was just hoping to do my best and didn’t expect to be honoured here. This year I will be studying medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.”
