Deppe tells of election run

FOURWAYS – Read to find out why Ward 132 Councillor, Annette Deppe is running for deputy chairperson of Gauteng Province.

Ward 132 councillor, Annette Deppe is a candidate for the post of Democratic Alliance deputy chairperson of Gauteng province.

“Having grown up in Johannesburg South, I experienced poverty and social injustice first-hand which has played a large part in shaping my political views, hence I have made myself available to stand as the deputy chairperson of Gauteng province,” Deppe said.

She stated that for the past 30 years she has lived in the north of Johannesburg and has seen how the other half lives. “This has made me see things from a different point of view.”

Deppe has served as constituency chair for Midrand and, currently, she is the Whip for the Development Planning Portfolio in the Johannesburg caucus.

She added that she joined the DA in 2005 as a volunteer fund-raiser and brought with her experience in social, business and community improvement.

“I worked in the banking sector as a business development adviser and financial planner for 16 years. My political experience was considerably enhanced as I served the DA in various positions,” Deppe said. She added that those positions included being a ward councillor, the Midrand constituency chairperson, and the constituency campaign manager for ward 132.

“I have also served in the Johannesburg caucus as a regional whip, portfolio whip and shadow MMC for Development Planning. I was also a full member of the Transportation and Community Development Committees in council,” she explained.

Deppe shared that she has considerable experience working in all communities across the city in all wards.

“I was also instrumental in getting a new public school built in Midrand. I also managed the biggest fundraiser in Gauteng province in the past 11 years.”

Deppe mentioned that she has also mentored many public representatives into becoming leaders in the DA, has sat on the selection panel for the region and is a responsible politician who takes her job seriously.

“I received awards for the best constituency in Gauteng south in 2015, and as a fit-for-purpose candidate, I commit myself to fully support our caucus, regional and provincial leadership. To drive our values both internally and externally in all our structures and to advance the open opportunity society concept in all spheres of government in which I represent in the Democratic Alliance,” she said.

Deppe concluded that should community members vote for her, they will get to see passion, vision and commitment.
