Housebreaking safety tips in Fourways

DOUGLASDALE – Read how not to fall prey to housebreaking and theft.

 

Due to the rise in housebreaking and theft in the Fourways area, the Douglasdale Police Station communications officer, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane shared theft and housebreaking safety tips:

  • You should not leave your house vacant or unattended for too long
  • To install burglar proofing and always lock all the doors properly when you leave your house
  • Ask someone to look after your house and property when you leave
  • When noticing something unusual at your neighbour’s house inform the police
  • Always lock your door even when you are at home
  • Always insist on seeing identification cards of callers who claim to be government officials
  • Never open doors to strangers
  • When your house is broken into, do not touch anything until fingerprints are lifted and report any suspicious characters to the police.

Tshetlhane said it was crucial for community members to help the police to make the area safe. “We need help from the community to fight crime because together we can act against crime.”
