More about how the incident unfolded

The Midrand Community Policing Forum (CPF) in a Facebook post explained that the incident on Tuesday morning unfolded when an unmarked police vehicle was hijacked and a high-speed chase ensued. The hijacked vehicle was then abandoned in Crowthorne where a police officer was shot and wounded, read the CPF’s post.

“The suspects then hijacked another vehicle and drove off. They were then involved in an accident. The suspects drove the damaged vehicle into the Kyalami corner shopping centre and ran into the centre,” said the Midrand CPF.

“A shootout occurred with Saps, and a police officer was shot and one suspect was fatally wounded. A second suspect was apprehended.”

Both of the police members were airlifted to hospital, said the Midrand CPF.

“Our thoughts are with them, their families and colleagues Our thanks go out to Saps, the security companies and CPF members who responded so quickly.”

One of the suspects is arrested at Kyalami Corner.
