17-year-old in the dock for murder

JOBURG – 17-year-old to go on trial for murder.

The court case against a teenager, who is accused of murder was postponed to 28 September, to allow his legal representative more time to make representations to the senior public prosecutor.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named because he is still a minor, made a brief appearance in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 20 September.

The State alleges that the accused stabbed Alfred Matjumza to death in Diepsloot on 18 November 2016.

During his brief appearance in court, the teenager was under heavy guard with his legs in chains. He was also surrounded by prison wardens.

His father was also present in court. By law, a parent or guardian is required to appear in court with a minor.
