The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition bronze certificate was awarded to Brescia House Schoolgirl Kate Watson, for the second time in two years.
The competition is the oldest international school writing competition that started in 1883. Run by the Royal Commonwealth Society, in partnership with Cambridge University Press, which Queen Elizabeth II is head of.
Last year, Watson entered this competition as well and was awarded a bronze certificate for her entry entitled, Let Them In. This year she was, once again, rewarded with the bronze certificate for her entry of Passage to Peace. The theme of this year’s competition was A Commonwealth for Peace and Watson rounded it off perfectly with her entry.
“My essay was in the form of a diary format and told the story of a South African girl, who was inspired by some of my life experiences. I wanted to not only address non-violence and political stability but also being at peace with one’s talents and situations,” said Watson.
