‘My job is my calling’ – Top Cop awarded
DOUGLASDALE – The winner of this month's Top Cop Award is … Constable Leonard Mabusha!
Police officers, community leaders and Top Cop organisers gathered on 17 August to hand out the Top Cop award for August to Constable Leonard Mabusha, for his work in crime prevention within his community.
As Colonel Goodenough Xaba handed over the Top Cop Award, he told the officers present that they should feel inspired by Mabusha’s win, and let it be the motivation for their future police work.
“If one man from our station can do so well and be called the best, we must know that we can all do it.”
Mabusha was one of five staff members from the Douglasdale Police Station nominated for this month’s award in various categories, which aims to acknowledge the hard work of officers and support staff at the Douglasdale Police Station.

He was nominated for the Best Vispol External for his work, which is focused on crime prevention within the Douglasdale community.
Mabusha believes that a big part of his success comes from earning the trust of his community because if the public does not trust the police, they are unlikely to report crime.
“To me, this job is definitely a calling,” he told Fourways Review of his nomination. “Everything we do is for the community, and they need to trust us.”
About 11 members of the South African Police Service turned out for the awards ceremony, which was also attended by the sponsors, Auto and General, staff from Caxton Publishing and Jean Berdou of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF).

“The Douglasdale CPF is delighted with the success of the Top Cop project, and also the recognition it gives to hardworking officers,” he said.
“Our community needs to know hard our police officers work to protect and serve their community.”
