Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mduduzi Manana, was granted R5 000 bail by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 10 August.
Manana made a brief appearance before Magistrate Liezel Davids. Addressing the court, Prosecutor Yusuf Baba said the accused was facing two counts of assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm. Baba made mention that Manana’s charges were a Schedule 1 offence.
NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwana said Manana had handed himself over at the Douglasdale Police Station.

Mjonondwana has dismissed claims that Manana received preferential treatment, highlighting that he was treated like any other accused person.

During his brief appearance, Manana appeared unphased and there was no sign of remorse.
He greeted his friends as he left the court room on the way back to the cells. The matter was postponed to 13 September for further investigations
