67 minutes for Nkosi’s Haven

FOURWAYS – 7 Arrows Security goes the extra mile on Mandela Day to help the Nkosi's Haven community. Read this story to find out what they did.

7Arrows Security decided to give a little more than 67 minutes for their Mandela Day project. They chose Nkosi’s Haven as their project and spoiled the women and children with clothes, food and toys.

In collaboration with the local community, the security company started collecting clothes, non-perishable food and toys over the last two weeks approaching Mandela Day.

Nkosi’s Haven is a non-profit organisation that caters for HIV and Aids infected mothers and children. The haven was named after South Africa’s famous child Aids activist, Nkosi Johnson, who was born with HIV. At the time of his death in 2001, he was the longest-surviving child born with HIV in the country.

He was posthumously awarded the International Children’s Peace Prize in Rome in November 2001 for his efforts in support of the rights of children with HIV/Aids, and his legacy continues to live on through Nkosi’s Haven, which houses and supports HIV-positive mothers and children.

The NGO has been active since 1999 offering help without prejudice to people who are HIV positive or who suffer from Aids.

“We would like to express our gratitude to those who have supported our drive and we hope to make some sort of a difference to the haven,” said Victor Tortora, chief operating officer of 7Arrows Security. “We are overwhelmed with the generosity shown and how much we have been able to collect in just two weeks” he added.

Gail Johnson, founding director of Nkosi’s Haven said,”We so appreciate being chosen by 7Arrows Security as the beneficiary of their Mandela Day product collection from neighbours and clients, who gave so generously. Thank you. 7Arrows matched those donations by a donation of R5 000 to Nkosi’s Haven.

“We are extremely grateful for both the products and financial donation and really appreciated the [fact that the] 7Arrows team delivered the donations to the Village,” she concluded.
