Joburg unites for #Knysna and demonstrates what being South African is all about

FOURWAYS – The local community pulls together to help ease the suffering of the Knysna fire victims.

Stormy conditions in the Cape caused hundreds of homes to be completely destroyed, leaving residents with nothing except the clothes on their backs.

Some have lost loved ones and pets, but almost everyone is dealing with extreme hardship and heartache. But being South Africans, we have rallied together to try and ease their burden slightly.

Donations, which flooded in and were collected from all over the city of Johannesburg, arrived at The Square in Knysna, where their main relief distribution centre is based.

An appeal by Caxton, Hot 91.9 FM and 94.7FM prompted massive support from communities – and the goodwill continues.

Cen Air and SA Express Airways immediately stepped up to the plate and flew the donations in to provide some relief to affected communities. For the next two weeks, donations will be picked up at Pick n Pay Fourways Crossing, Pick n Pay Douglasdale, Pick n Pay Clearwater Mall and the Fourways Review office in Craighall. The items so generously donated will be sent down for the next two weeks each Friday.

Jean Berdou, chairperson of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum, lauded residents from the greater Fourways area and greater Johannesburg, and South Africans in general, whose generosity emerged in this time of crisis. “Despite their own hardships and everyday struggles, the community came together and extended their hands to their fellow South Africans,” said Berdou.
