Woodrock Animal Rescue hosts first Sleepathon

FOURWAYS – Are you adventurous to rough it out in a kennel for 10 hours with a canine partner as your only companion? Read how you can.

Woodrock Animal Rescue is excited about its first Sleepathon at its shelter in Hennops River Valley on the night of 8 April.

The purpose of the event is to make a meaningful change in the lives of the shelter’s forgotten and neglected animals.

Co-founder of the shelter, Estelle Meldau said they relied on community members’ acts of kindness. People can do so by taking up the challenge and being part of the Sleepathon and make a difference to the animals’ lives.

The shelter provided details on how to register for the Sleepathon:

  • sign up and register on https://12paws.co.za/events and pay your R150 registration fee
  • Ask family, friends and colleagues to sponsor you
  • Challenge family, friends, colleagues, your boss and everyone else, to support you in your quest and to sponsor you for every hour you spend with a dog in the kennel
  • The ‘backabuddy’ platform can be used to list sponsors’ names and notes of encouragement. Find your sponsor sheet at https://12paws.co.za/events
  • Invite everyone to visit the shelter on the day and to join in the fun before lock up and then experience first-hand what a shelter animal has to endure night after night.

“So, come along with your overnight bag and take part in this wonderful challenge. Make the change that you want to see. All money raised goes to Woodrock Animal Rescue for the benefit of our rescue animals,” Meldau said, who added that true giving was when people don’t expect anything in return.

“However, Woodrock can guarantee that the rewards you will receive by taking part in this unselfish experience will be a trillion-fold. Looking forward to a furry-fun Sleepathon.”
