Pirates and Sundowns will now appear before a PSL Disciplinary Committee on 20 March
JOBURG – Club officials of Sundowns and Pirates will answer for the Loftus Versfeld violence that erupted on 11 February.
The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has postponed its meeting to hear a matter involving Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, following the mayhem that erupted at the Loftus Versveld Stadium during the Absa Premiership clash between the two giants.
The hearing had been scheduled for 9 March but has now been postponed to 20 March at 6pm at the league’s offices in Parktown, Johannesburg.
Club officials of Sundowns and Pirates will answer for the Loftus Versfeld violence that erupted on 11 February during their premiership match in which the Brazilians were leading the Buccaneers 6–0.
The league decided to charge both clubs for the chaos that occurred on the day. Sundowns, as the home team, has been charged for failing to provide adequate security measures for the match, while the Buccaneers are being rapped on the knuckles for their supporters’ invasion of the pitch, throwing missiles onto the field and causing damage to property.
The Brazilians have also been charged for the misconduct of their supporters who also invaded the pitch and had running battles with their Pirates counterparts.
