Another smash-and-grab incident took place on 7 March on the R511 in Diepsloot Ext 2.
According to the spokesperson for Diepsloot Police Station, Jenny Morata, this area is a smash-and-grab hotspot.
A suspect was caught near the R511, shortly after a cellphone was stolen from a motorist stopped at the traffic lights. “The suspect was arrested by a member of the Diepsloot task team,” said Morata.

The stolen cellphone was not recovered, but the suspect did, however, confess to the crime.
“The phone is with one of his friends, who is still at large. We appeal to motorists to not drive around with valuables displayed on their car seats,” said Morata.
Diepsloot police officers are currently reviewing other smash-and-grab cases in the area to determine if the suspect can be linked to other incidents.
“The suspect is expected to be charged with theft out of a motor vehicle and he will appear in Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon,” concluded Morata.
