MUST READ: Joost in hospital fighting for his life

DAINFERN– Prayers for the renowned former South African rugby team’s scrum half.

Dainfern resident and the country’s much-loved rugby legend, Joost van der Westhuizen, has been rushed to hospital and is reported to be in a critical condition.

The J9 Foundation, formed by Van der Westhuizen in aid of those suffering from the same form of fatal illness, confirmed the reports and asked that Joost and his family’s privacy be respected.

Van der Westhuizen was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in April 2011. He unashamedly went through the emotions of having the crippling, debilitating condition yet, with his fighting spirit, he continued to live life with the same determination the world knows him for, from his days as a scrum half for the South African rugby team.

The foundation reported, via Facebook, that when it has updates, it will let the community know. However, for now, they have asked that everyone bow their heads in prayer for Van der Westhuizen.
