DOUGLASDALE – Teddy bears can warm hearts, but none more than those donated by the Women’s Agriculture Union (WAU) to the Douglasdale Police Trauma Centre.

WAU recently donated 50 handmade teddy bears to the trauma unit. A member of the union, Marlene Wessels said, “We are a couple of ladies that come together every month and work on certain projects. This time we were working on knitting and felt the need to donate the bears to a place that will put them to good use.”

The bears were knitted as part of a competition that WAU ran among their members. The women were judged on their knitting such as stitches and crochet work. “We know they will find happy homes and make a sad face smile in difficult times,” added Wessels.

The union finds inspiration by doing projects that connect them as a women’s network and help the community.
