Sun explained that the operation took place in Lenasia as a result of a public meeting held in Lenasia Civic Centre and called by ward councillor Kishore Badal, on 24 October.
“During that meeting, residents vented their anger and frustrations over… [all the] drugs in the area and I strongly believe that such crimes shouldn’t be allowed to continue in the Lenasia area,” said Sun.

He added that eight suspects were arrested for close to R10 000 worth of illegal drugs, and dagga was seized in several swoops during the planned operation. “The operation was successful due to the brave tip-offs by the community, as Metro police officers were able to clamp down on a number of drug dens hidden in the neighbourhood,” Sun expressed.

“I call on the community to flush out criminal elements in our neighbourhoods and to also be proactive in keeping our city safe. Let us unite to keep the city clean from criminal activities.”

Sun concluded that community members should tip off the police or Metro police if they witness any criminal activity in their area.
