R500 000 worth of jewellery stolen

MIDRAND – Woman claims her husband's carer stole half a million rand worth of jewellery from her.

A woman will appear in court after being charged with the theft of R500 000 worth of jewellery in June.
The victim, whose name is known to Midrand Reporter, claimed that her husband’s carer stole her jewellery. “The carer, a well-qualified young woman with free run of the house and whom I trusted completely, [allegedly] stole all my jewellery worth more than half a million rand and a laptop.
“Midrand police came and arrested her, but police have not updated us on the case since then.”
The victim added that she was surprised to see the suspect now free. When Midrand Reporter asked her why she kept such expensive jewellery at home, the victim said, “I live in a secure place and the only people who could access my living area is my husband, myself and the carer. At the time it seemed safe.”
Midrand Police Station’s Sergeant Matome Tlamela said, “The investigating officer said he contacted the complainant once and was going to update her on the case once she was called upon to appear in court. The suspect was released with a warning to appear in court at a later date.”
The case continues.
Details: Midrand Police Station 011 347 1600.
