UPDATE: Police declare shopping centres safe

FOURWAYS– Lonehill Shopping Centre and Bel-Air Shopping Centre are declared safe and open for business.

The head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Kgasoane, confirmed the bomb threats that were reported at the centres. “There was indeed a bomb threat at Lonehill Shopping Centre and Bel-Air Shopping Centre, as the police, K-9 Unit and bomb squad immediately reported to the scene,” she said.

Kgasoane stated that after hours of inspection, they came to a conclusion that the threats were a false report. “We can now declare the shopping centres safe and open for business.”

“Further investigation of these bomb threats will be conducted, as we want to convict the culprits involved in these threats. We also appeal to the community to come forth and help the police with any information regarding these threats,” Kgasoane said.

Michelle Townsend, property portfolio manager for the Tintswalo Property Group added that Lonehill Shopping Centre, Bel Air Shopping Centre and Carlswald Lifestyle Shopping Centre are now declared safe by the police. “We can safely state that the centres are clean and can be open for business. We would also like to thank the police for their prompt and professional service,” Townsend said.
