Putting the needs and safety of others before your own is always seen as a commendable act and bearing testament to this is Douglasdale Police Station’s Shift D.
Shift D has been nominated for the Best Shift and team leader of the shift, Dumisani Shabangu shared how happy and grateful he was that his shift has been nominated. “We feel very grateful to be nominated by our colleagues as the Best Shift this month, as this shows that they acknowledge the work that we do as a team,” he said.
“Whenever there is a complaint, our shift is always there to assist as we have the best interests of the community at heart.”
Shabangu explained that what the shift does is deploy vehicles in different sectors in order to attend to complaints and respond to crimes that are in progress. “We also open dockets when crimes are committed and we patrol in schools, shopping malls or centres in an effort to deter would-be criminals so that members of the community feel safe.”
Shabangu concluded that should they win the money, they will split it amongst themselves and celebrate their wins. “We will probably look for a venue where we can all socialise with each other and probably do some team building exercises – that way we can all get to know each other but in an informal setup,” Shabangu said.
