Two pupils share their matric dance experience

FOURWAYS– Read on a matric experience of two pupils from Fourways High School.

Two matric pupils of Fourways High School, Reine Aldous and Nicole Pottek shared their experience of the recent matric dance which took place on 1 October at Cedarwoods, Sandton.

Aldous stated that upon arrival, there was an aura of excitement in the air with a touch of decadence, glitz and glamour in every fine detail. “From the world’s longest red carpet to having your name read out as if you were royalty – you could feel that the evening would be, in the wise words of a favourite High School Musical song, ‘the night of nights’ – a night to last forever that we would never ever forget.”

Aldous added that he could feel ,at that point, something special was happening. “It also symbolised how close we were to that transition from school to adulthood. Waving goodbye to our past, celebrating our present and welcoming our futures. This was it and I wanted the clocks to stop.”

Pottek shared that the evening, and every part of it, was mind-blowing. “The decor, the atmosphere, the people, exceeded any expectation I was warned about having. Who knew that the class of 2016 was so good looking and who knew our teachers had some dance moves – although, VH1 called them the next day, they asked for their 80s dance moves back.

“We danced, some like amateurs and others like pros. We danced with shoes, we danced without shoes (sorry Mrs Clay) and we laughed and sang along to songs I have not heard since my Grade 7 disco. And to my surprise, I found out that everyone’s low-key favourite jam is Kaptein span die seile,” Pottek said.

Pottek and Aldous stated that the night was – as clichéd as it sounds – truly the best night of their lives.

“It was an evening that, regardless of where we end up in the world one day, 60 years from now we will all look back and reminisce about it. It was the perfect ending to a five-year story. The type of ending legends deserve,” the pair stated.

On behalf of the class of 2016, Pottek and Aldous, would like to thank their teachers Mrs Clay and Mrs Janse van Rensburg and everyone involved in every aspect of their matric dance for the wonderful evening, which would not have been possible without them.
