Update: 5:14pm
Chairperson of the Douglasdale CPF, Jean Berdou has announced that the Lonehill Shopping Centre is now open for business.
Initial story:
There has been another bomb scare in the Fourways area this afternoon. This time, the Lonehill Shopping Centre has been targeted.
Chairperson of the Douglasdale CPF, Jean Berdou, confirmed these threats.
He said, “There is currently a bomb scare at the Lonehill Shopping centre following the bomb threats from earlier today. Police officials are currently at the scene investigating. Police have urged the public to avoid these areas and discouraged onlookers at the scene.”
Lonehill Boulevard has since been closed to deal with the threat.
Michelle Townsend, property portfolio manager for the Tintswalo Property Group confirmed that the Lonehill Shopping Centre received an anonymous threat. “We don’t know where it is from,” she said.
Townsend said police and Fidelity Security were at the scene and evacuating the centre.
“We don’t want to take any risks, it could be another hoax, but if there is even a 1 per cent chance that something could happen, we need to act.”
Townsend said the police and Fidelity Security had been amazing throughout the process. “They have been a pleasure to work with. They have been outstanding.”
This follows bomb scares from the Fourways Mall and the Crowthorne Shopping Centre in Midrand from earlier today. After investigations, officials declared the shopping complexes safe.
