ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak commented on the shooting of a mother and son in an Olivedale complex.
He said, “At approximately 8.30pm an off duty ER24 paramedic in the nearby vicinity responded to a complex near Pritchard Road in Olivedale after calls for an ambulance were received over ER24’s communications channel.”
“Upon arrival he found that an 18-year-old and his mother sustained gunshot wounds. The 18-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to his face and his mother sustained a gunshot wound to her hand.”
“Both of them were in a serious condition at the time. ER24’s ambulance and another private service arrived on the scene to assist with treatment. Police and private security companies also arrived on the scene,” said Wermaak.
Wermaak said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet known. However, the mother explained that they were allegedly shot by a neighbour during an altercation.
The police will conduct an investigation into the exact circumstances.

Jean Berdou, chairperson of the Douglasdale Community Police Forum (CPF) has confirmed that two people were shot in an Olivedale complex, following an argument that occurred between two residents.
Berdou said that the two individuals had a history of problems.
According to reports, a young male arrived home, inebriated, and started arguing with his neighbour, who is in his late 50s. The altercation grew physical and later resulted in the neighbour in his 50s, turning to his firearm.
Berdou said the young inebriated man was shot in his cheek, while his mother was shot in the hand.
“At this stage it is unclear if one bullet hit two individuals, or if two shots were fired,” said Berdou.
Both individuals were taken to the Fourways Life Hospital for further advanced medical care, after being stabilised by paramedics on scene.
The neighbour who allegedly shot the mother and son, has been arrested, and was taken to the Douglasdale Police Station.
