Not hogging all the cash

RADIOKOP - Hogshead raises more than R150 000 in donations for the South African Guide Dogs Association and the Nashua Children's Fund.

Hogshead, a pub in Rock Cottage, recently handed over a cheque of just over R150 000 to the South African Guide-Dogs Association and the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation after hosting an annual charity golf day.

“We have been hosting this golf day fundraiser for three years now in conjunction with the people from Nashua West Rand,” explained Brett Cooper, one of the managers of Hogshead.

“At first we were just raising funds for the South African Guide-Dogs Association, but for the last two years we have also included the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation as recipients.”

The two charities will share the R162 358.20 equally.

Joel van Stavel, one of the dog trainers from the South African Guide-Dogs Association said the money raised this year will go towards the final part of training seeing eye dogs, a process which takes about six months.

Meanwhile, Helen Fraser, operations director of the Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation said that their share of the donation will go towards 75 children’s organisations across the province.

“This golf day was a blessing! And we have already begun planning for 2017,” said Fraser.
