Local boys in Inter-provincial Motocross

FOURWAYS – Three Fourways boys will be representing Gauteng at the Inter-Provincial Motocross competition next month.

Local boys Matthew Stewart (8), Linken Noble (8) and Jake Pretorius (6) have qualified to represent Gauteng in the Inter-Provincial Motocross competition.

All three will be riding in the 50cc category of the competition on 1 to 2 October in Bloemfontein. Children aged four up to 18 are eligible to compete in the competition once they have qualified.

“Our kids love riding, they just enjoy themselves while we dads get most of the stress [of organising their practising and participation],” said Gary Noble, father of Linken.

“But this is something that they want to do, and it’s better than playing Playstation inside all day and it keeps them busy.”

Malcolm Stewart, Matthew’s father, agreed. “This is something that they want to do. As long as Matthew is passionate, I’ll support him,” he said.

The trio gained their places on the Inter-provincial team through the scores that they achieved at five of the Mayfair Gearbox Motorcross competitions over the past several months.

Mathew will be competing in the Pro Senior 50cc class, while Jake and Linken will be competing in the Junior section of the same class.

“I’m really excited to be in the race soon,” said Linken, who has managed to get a partial sponsorship from FFWD Moto Tech.

“As our kids get older, this sport will create a close group of friends around them, and keep them out of trouble,” Gary said.

Malcolm added that the sense of community that the sport generated was amazing. “The motocross community is a close-knit family.”
