Get the popcorn out for this film festival

JOBURG – It's time, again for the Jozi Film Festival to take over local theatres.

Johannesburg is rich with creative minds, all of whom will no doubt enjoy the line-up of interesting films to be screened during the annual Jozi Film Festival.

The festival is set to take place from 15 to 18 September, during which a number of the film’s creators and producers will make their way to the City of Gold to check out how their film content will be received by the locals.

Most impressive is that The Bioscope, an independent cinema in Maboneng, never disappoints and will be one of the venues screening the films, along with Cinema Nouveau at Rosebank Mall and the Eyethu Lifestyle Centre in Soweto.

During the festival, there will be more than 40 films screened across three venues, some of which were filmed right here in the city.

Dora’s Peace was filmed in Hillbrow and forms part of the movie line-up, along with rapper Khuli Chana’s newest project, Picking Up The Pieces: The Khuli Chana Story.

Out of all the films to be screened, more than 10 of them are highly acclaimed student short films and each one of these complements the other regular length films in the line-up.

There will be even more to experience during the four-day extravaganza, with AFDA film school teaming up with Jozi Film Festival to present film talks at the Goethe Institut in Parkview.

“We are thrilled to be working alongside AFDA in bringing relevant speakers to the table to discuss the future of the local film industry. We are a community in this industry and supporting a growing network of local filmmakers is part of what we do. Our thanks to Goethe for hosting us again this year,” said Lisa Henry of the Jozi Film Festival.

With a fierce love for the city, we think this is the perfect opportunity to experience the luxuries of independent cinema at The Bioscope and enjoy some alternate goodies as you take in some internationally-acclaimed films.
